Audi R4 Confirmed

Audi R4
Called the Audi e-tron Detroit show car, this concept is actually a variant of the e-tron concept that was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2009. However, the e-tron show at the Detroin Auto Show is actually 27 cm (10.63 inches) shorter in length and 12 cm (4.72 inches) narrower and only 1 cm (0.39 inch) shorter in height than the one showed at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It’s also shorter than the current Audi R8. The weight of the e-tron showed in Detroit is around 1,350kg (2976.24 lbs), which is about 250 kg (551.16 lbs) less than the e-tron concept showed in Frankfurt in 2009.
With such a significantly smaller profile, many speculated that the e-tron sowed in Detroit couple days ago is actually a preview of the “baby R8” also known as the R4. Well, it Turns out to be true.
Audi Officially confirmed the e-tron concept as R4 preview
The e-tron showed in Detroit is powered by two electric motors. They drive the front and rear axles. Together the two electric motors make 204ps and get this 2,650Nm of torque, yes I will write this again 2,650Nm. I don’t know that many of us are aware that this is more than a truck; it’s more than twice the torque of a Bugatti Veyron. Weirdly with so much torque, the e-tron is said to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.9seconds and the top speed is limited to 200km/h(124mph).
Audi R4, the ultimate Tesla competitor
The lithium-ion batteries that are giving all that power can be charged for around 100 hours from a household socked.
As for the official Audi R4
The future R4 will share the same shape and styling as the e-Tron electric concept showed in Detroit. In the long-run, Audi plans to use the electric car template as a basis for future models.
The future R4 is expected to be released in 2012 with both electric and conventional engines.
Bigger than the TT, but slightly smaller than the R8, the 2012 Audi R4 will share a similar-looking roofline with the TT and R8.
