After the great RS3, Audi fans has been waiting for the upcoming Audi S1 and Audi RS1. Happily one Audi fan has managed to take a few photos of the 2012 Audi S1 near quattro GmbH headquarters in Neckarsulm Germany. Sadly as seen from the Audi S1 photos bellow, the S1 will not come with quattro four-wheel driver or this particular model was not equipment with it. However the 2013 Audi RS1 will almost certainly feature  quattro.

2011 Audi S1 engines

Sadly there is no official information from Audi about the engines of the small ” angry bug killer” but we can expect either pumped up 1.4TFSI engine from the current A1 or 1.8TFSI from the 2011 Audi A3. Either way one thing is for sure, the Fiat 500 Abarth will see the four rings in its rear view mirror really soon.

Audi S1 Photos

MTM Audi A1

Firstly, the MTM Audi A1. The MTM Audi A1 will be powered by a 1.4TFSI engine producing around 150ps, that’s almost 30ps more than the standard A1. With the 18” MTM Bi-Moto wheels, the A1 will be a great looker.

Oettinger Audi A1

Next, the A1 tuned by Oettinger. Oettinger have a different approach compared to MTM, they will use the 1.6TDI. Replacing the original ECU with a specially programmed one from Oettinger will increase the power from 105ps to 136ps. It’s not a huge amount of power, but if you consider the small size of the A1, actually it’s not a bad choice. Style, Economy and Performance, all combined in one package.

Sportec Audi A1

Next, the Sportec. Sportec will add a completely different front bumper. Combined with a huge 19” alloys, the A1 will look very cool. Just like MTM, Sportec will relay on the 1.4TFSI engine with similar amount of power, around 150ps.

MRace Audi A1 will add a couple of visual elements with exclusive wheels. No info on the engines yet.

Digitec Audi A1. The DigiTec A1 will be powered by the 1.4TFSI, nothing special yet. But they promise that the power will be 162ps, and I know 12ps over the MTM A1 and the Sportec A1 is not that much, but if they do that crazy design changes, the A1 will become a little monster.

And finally the experts from ABT Sportsline. As  others, ABT will use the 1.4TFSI producing around 150ps.

Audi A1 S-Line

Audi released the first official photos of the A1 S-line during the Geneva Motor Show a couple of days ago.

From the photos released by Audi,  we can see that the A1 S-line features a larger front bumper compared to the standard A1. A larger roof-mounted spoiler and a rear diffuser are also inlcluded in the A1 S-line sport package.  Of course there are an unique S-Line 5-spoke wheels which are very similar to the wheels that you get with an TT-RS. The sportiness continues in the interior, S-Lines buyers will find a sport seats, a sport steering wheel, and special trim.

Although the A1 S-line looks spectacular, the engines remain the same and that’s really a shame with that beautiful body.  You can get either an 1.2-liter TFSI with 63 kW (86 PS) or an 1.6-liter Turbo-Diesel TDI with 90ps.

The good news are that Audi is planning to introduce the S1 in late 2012.  The S1 will likely get the 1.4TFSI from an A3 making a healthy 180ps.

Audi A1 S-Line

Here you can see the first official driving video that Audi has revealed.The all new 2011 Audi A1 was officialy revealed a couple of days ago and now, Audi released a new driving shots and give a glimpse of the A1 driving capabilities.

Audi wants to focus our attention to the A1 agility. To make sure that the A1 drives as good as it looks, DTM pilot Markus Winkelhock helped with the A1 chassis development.

When offered for sale later that year, the A1 will come as standard with an electrohydraulic power steering which has a 14.8:1 steering ratio. Traction control is also standard with an electronic axle differential lock which sends light braking pulses to the slipping inside wheel during a curve. All that changes should really sharpen the steering. After all, the main rival for the 2011 A1 will be the next gen BMW 1 series and we all know that BMW makes cars that handles beautifully.

Audi has released some specifications of the highly-anticipated 2011 A1, ahead of its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Designed to be both aggressive and elegant, the 2011A1 will measure 3.95 meters (12.96 feet) in length, 1.74 meters (5.71 feet) wide, 1.42 meters (4.66 feet) tall, and has a wheelbase of 2.47 meters (8.10 feet). As in other models, the latest creation from Ingolstadt will have a single frame grille, pronounced shoulder lines, sharply sloping C-pillars, and an available color-contrasted roof arch. In addition to all that design features, the A1 will get ‘wings of an eagle’ LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, and 15- to 18-inch wheels.

2011 Audi A1 Design

Audi makes one of the best interiors and the 2011 A1 is a perfect example of that. The dash was created to resemble the wings of an airplane (with the air vents acting as jet engines), while the center console was inspired by the stern of a yacht. At the rear, the luggage compartment holds a very respectable 267 liters (9.43 cubic feet) and 920 liters (32.49 cubic feet) when the rear seats are folded down. That is a very good achievement considering the small length of the A1.
The A1 will feature a full LED interior lights with special colorful upholstery and  a media center. As in the A8, the navigation display will pop up from the dashboard with an efficiency program, which provides every information you might need, such as fuel consumption data that will give recommendations for efficient driving. Options will include the latest MMI navigation offered by Audi.  A 465-watt Bose surround sound system will be also available.

Engine wise the A1 is avalible with two TFSI or two TDI engines (all four-cylinders). You can read more information about the future 2011 Audi A1 engines here.

The A1 will go on sale this summer, with a base price of approximately €16,000.

Audi announced that the A1 will feature LED daytime driving lights. Not surprising considering the fact that all models currently on sale  have that feature.

Audi says that it’s meant to resemble the “wings of an eagle,” and that the lights “display decisiveness and concentration, similar to an athlete poised in the starting blocks – with a sparkle in the eyes.” Well even for me that it’s a bit too far, but on the other hand the lights looked really good when they were caught on a photo shoot with Justin Tiberlake.

The future A1 will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine with 86ps, a 1.4-liter with 122 hp, and a turbocharged 1.4-liter with 170 hp. On the diesel side, the A1 is expected to feature a 1.6-liter TDI engine with 90 hp and 2.0-liter with 143 hp, which is currently offered on the Audi A4.

Audi sad, that this teaser is only the second in a series of many more, leading up to the media release in February, followed by the public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Audi A1

A photo of the Audi A1 was leaked after a video and photo shoot.

As you can see from the picture, Justin Timberlake is the main star in the photo shoot.
Timberlake will be featured in a series of advertisements for the new Audi A1.

As for the design of the new A1, it really stands out from the crowd. A good, aggressive look for the new supermini from Audi. Despite the fact that Justin is promoting the A1, sadly Audi is not planning to offer the A1 in US. So for now the only competitor for the Mini will remain the Ford Fiesta.
At the other hand, there are many competitors for the A1 in Europe. Ford Fiesta, Mercedes A-Class ,Alfa MiTo and the Fiat 500, which is a great success in England.
