Here at Audi Blog – Audicts, we are big fans of the A8 W12 and now Audi has released specifications and details of the all-new 2011 Audi A8 L W12 quattro. The long wheelbase variant of the 2011 Audi A8. As you can expect the main differences from the ordinary A8 is the extended wheelbase and the all new W12 engine.

The 2011 Audi A8 W12 measures 5,267 millimeters (17.28 ft) in lenght, 130mm (5.1 in) longer than any other rival models from Mercedes and BMW.

It features a longer wheelbase and an increase in height of 3,122 mm (10.24 ft) and 2 mm (0.08 in) respectively.

Rear passengers will be enjoying  two optional separate power-adjustable seats which can be heated and ventilated. A new feature on the 2011 Audi A8 W12 is the full-length centre console that can be equipped with a folding table and a fridge and of course four-zone automatic air conditioning.

2011 Audi A8 W12 Details

Here are the A8 W12 Details. For the 2011 A8 W12, Audi upgraded the standard MMI control system with more advanced one. For the first time in the A8 range, customers will have the pleasure to view 3D satellite navigation with Google Earth. If you like high quality music, the A8 will be also the right choice for you. A8 customers can order a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System. A panoramic sunroof  can be also ordered and a specal tanned Valonea leather.

Audi changed the exterior design as well for the A8 W12. The new single-frame radiator grille with chromed horizontal bars is really cool. They are numerous W12 badges and of course the classic two trapezoidal tailpipes. As standard the Audi A8 W12 is equipped with a 15-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/45 tyres are fitted, but customers can also order optional 20-inch or even 21-inch rims.

As far for the 2011 Audi A8 W12 engine specifications.

Based on the previous 6.0-liter engine found in the previous generation A8, the all new W12 for model year 2011 has been fully re worked with increased displacement from 6.0liters to 6.3 and added petrol direct injection for better fuel consumption. It weighs just 247 kilograms (545 lbs) and has a power output of 368 kW (493 bhp / 500 PS) and a torque of 625 Nm (460.98 lb-ft) at 3,250rpm. As you can expect the 2011 Audi A8 W12 is equipped with quattro four wheel drive system. For the first time Audi will put a 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox in one of their models. Keep in mind that the A8 W12 weight less that the previous generation A8 and the 0-62mph(0-100km/h) will be time less than 5seconds(4.9s). That is a remarkable achievement considering the enormous size of the A8. The top speed is limited to 155mph(250km/h) r Average fuel consumption is said to be a low 12.0 litres per 100 kilometres (19.6 US mpg).

While only the W12 FSI is available at launch, by the end of the year the long version of the A8 will be offered with the standard engines.

Audi Hybrid

As the petrol prices raise almost daily, Audi is planning to introduce a couple of hybrid vehicles in the next few years. Audi is planning to dominate the hybrid car sector at the end of 2012. To achieve that, they are going to introduce an A6 hybrid with their next A6 model.
At the premium sector, the job is up to the all-new 2011 A8. Audi introduced a hybrid version of their A8 at this year Geneva motor show, check pictures and 2011 A8 hybrid specifications.
A hybrid version of the current version of the 2010 Audi Q5 will be also available soon. Specialists say that by the end of the decate, Audi will extend their hybrid model lineup to all of their models, including the A1 and Audi A2.

‘In future, our clients will be able to choose from an ever expanding range of powertrain technologies,’ said Audi’s head: Rupert Stadler recently in Geneva.

Probably in the future the e-tron name, which Audi use for it’s electric power vehicles will be even more spread out  then the quattro name.

2011 Audi S8

Spy photographers has managed to catch the 2011 Audi S8 in action. The pictures were taken a couple of days ago while Audi was testing the S8 in the Arctic.

As you can see from these photos, the 2011 Audi S8 will get an more aggressive face.

The wheels and tires of course are just for the winter testing, so you can ignore them.

2011 Audi S8 Engine Specifications

There is no official information about what engine is going to be fitted in the S8. Some say that Audi is going to put the 5.0 V10 BiTurbo from the RS6, but that’s not very likely to happen. Audi is now working on a 4.0 BiTurbo V8, so that could be the heart of the S8. With the increasing fuel prices and strict emission policy, a “small” engine would probably be a better choice. Considering that Audi is now getting 450ps from a naturally aspirated 4.2, they would easily get more that 500ps from a BiTurbo V8. Combine 500ps with the lightness of the S8 and you will get a seriously quick car.

Audi AS8

The new Audi A8 unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show is without a doubt a very handsome car and now it’s got even better. The tuning masters from ABT Sportsline in Germany have turned the elegant A8 into a beast.

Called the Audi AS8 the car features a new wider front spoiler and side skirts. As standart ABT AS8 customers will get 20inch wheels, but if that is not enough ABT will fit 21inch for a little extra euro.

ABT also replaced the ECU and managed to squeeze 385 PS (283 kW / 380 hp) and 880 Nm (649 lb-ft) of torque from the 4.2liter TDI engine. This is a 35 PS (26 kW) and 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) compared to a ordinary A8 4.2TDI.

A spokesman from ABT said that they haven’t changed the A8 into a sports car, but into a sporty yet confident and stylish limousine.

Sadly the guys from ABT are not planning to sell the AS8 into a US territory.

Audi AS8

Audi revealed their brand new A8 and the A8 Hybrid concept in a couple of days in Switzerland.

Audi called the A8 hybrid a “near-production concept,”. And from the photos you can see the final result is a car that is almost ready for production. They are a couple of differences between the standard A8 and the hybrid like a new front spoiler and unique 21-inch wheels with two-tone rims and three-dimensional surface areas.

The 2011 A8 Hybrid will be powered by the 2.0-liter TFSI engine and a small electric motor. The 2.0 TFSI will produce a 155 kW (211 PS / 208 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), while the electric motor will help producing around 33 kW (45 PS / 44 hp) and 211 Nm (156 lb-ft) of torque. Together, they will have combined power of 180 kW (245 PS / 241 hp) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque which is enough because the A8 is the most lightest in it’s class and because of that the performance features are very good. From 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes only 7.6 seconds and the top speed is 235 km/h (146 mph) and the fuel consumption will be a unbelievable 6.2 l/100km (38 mpg US) while CO2 emissions are 144 grams per km (232 g/mile).

Audi said that, “The hybrid drive is designed for fully electric-powered driving up to 65 km/h (40 mph) and for a distance exceeding two kilometers. And when the A8 starts moving the 2.0 TFSI and the electric motor will work together to suit varying power demands. Above 65 km/h (40 mph) the combustion engine alone does all the propulsive work, while the electric motor supplies onboard users and recharges the battery.”

All new 2011 Audi A8

Audi unveiled the all new A8 at the Detroit auto show.

New technologies include the new-generation Audi MMI system, the latest Quattro four wheel drive system and full LED headlights.
To reduce fuel consumption Audi is put an energy regeneration system in the latest A8. There are several new engines that are available in the A8: 3.0TDI with 250ps and 550Nm of Torque, 4.2TDI with 350ps and 4.2FSI V8 with 372ps and 445Nm.

The Audi A8 competitors

The 2011 A8 is a primary competitor to the BMW 7 series, Mercedes S class and the Jaguar XJ.  The VW Phaeton and the Lexus LS are identified as secondary rivals.

After a lot of waiting, Audi has finally revealed the all new 2011 Audi A8.
And as you can see it looks just astonishing. At the front it’s brutal and very aggressive but at the same time quite stylish. It looks million times better than the BMW 7 series and the Merc S class even with the AMG optional package.
The only competitor at the design area as I can see it is Jaguar’s new XJ. But when it comes to engines and innovation, the all new 2011 Audi A8 is in a different league.

At a glance the Audi A8 and its full aluminum body structure features an updated MMI operating system with hand writing recognition touch pad, new driver assistance systems, full LED headlights and new technologies such as night vision assist with marking of detected pedestrians and Audi pre sense safety system.

“The new Audi A8 is the sportiest sedan in its segment,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “It combines numerous functions in a new and intelligent way. And it’s unmatched in the stylistic elements and impression of the interior.”

As I mentioned, The A8’s core competitors include the Mercedes-Benz S Class and BMW 7 Series with the Lexus LS and Jaguar XJ described as secondary competitors. The 2011 A8 weighs about the same as the outgoing model despite being 3 inches longer, 2 inches wider and has more standard equipment (8-speed auto transmission, pre sense basic, keyless go, power trunk, etc.) The new Audi A8 is also lighter than any of it’s competitors, 50lbs less than the Merc S Class with Real Wheel Drive, and more than 200lbs (90.7kg) less than S Class with four wheel drive,  more than 200lbs less than the BMW 7 Series RWD and more than 400lbs (181.4kg) less than 7 Series AWD. 181.4kg is a HUGE difference.
Audi A8 it’s not what it used to be, a heave four wheel drive executive saloon. With so many technical innovations I have to agree that that A8 is the best so far. It looks great, the interior is just astonishing.

The engines that are going to be offered in the 2011 A8 are well known, 4.2 FSI V8 with 273 kW (372 hp).  The standard transmission is an all-new eight speed tiptronic coupled to the latest generation quattro all wheel drive as standard.  0-100km/h (62 mph) arrives in 5.7 seconds while Audi is claiming an estimated 15 percent improvement in fuel consumption versus the current A8 (EPA figures TBD).

A long wheel base variant will be revealed in 2010 in addition to the confirmation of a hybrid model on the way.

Audi A8 to be unviled at november 30th.

Finally, after a lot of speculations and waiting, Audi finally set a date to unveil the new A8. The car will debut at the Audi Pavilion. Audi pavilion is a temporary museum structure located in Miami’s Design District.

In partly explaining the logic behind this move, Rupert Stadler, who is the Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG said: “Our claim “Vorsprung durch Technik” also embraces design, which is one of the outstanding elements of the Audi signature. And as top design has now emerged as an acknowledged art form, we see the bridge between art and architecture as a logical step in advancing our brand.”

I’m really nervous to see what the new A8 would look like. To be hones I don’t like the new BMW 7 too much. Yes technically it’s a very modern and sophisticated automobile, but somehow there is no aggression in it. I really hope that the Audi A8 would at least be at the same level as the Mercedes S-Class,which by every standards it’s the benchmark. Should be interesting to see the V12-TDI against the remarkable V12-Twin Turbo from BMW and the bullet proof V12-TwinTurbo in the Merc S600.
