Audi R8 GT Details and Specifications

Audi has officially launched the R8 GT. The Audi R8 GT is a limited-production monster on four wheels. The R8 GT is based on the R8 V10 but the GT is much lighter and more powerful than its normal sibling.

To reduce the weight of the R8 GT, Audi has fitted the R8 with a windscreen constructed of thinner glass, a lighter rear spoiler, a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic rear hatch, rear bumper and side blades. Even caps of the carbon fiber ceramic brake discs have been modified to save weight, the results are clear, the Audi R8 GT weight 1,525kg (3,362.05 lb) which is 100kg lighter than the ordinary V10 R8.

Audi R8 GT Engine Specifications

Although the engine is still the same as the V10 R8, a 5.2-litre V10 it has been modified to deliver more power. After remapping the ECU the power is up from 386 kW (518 bhp/ 525 PS) to 412 kW (553 bhp / 560 PS). And yes, it’s exactly the same as the Lamborghini LP-560-4. Also the torque is a bit more: 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) at 6,500rpm. If the road is dry, the quattro system will send 85% to the rear wheels.

The R8 GT is fitted with the R Tronic sequential manual transmission. It have to be said that is not as good as the DSG, but have perfected it to a level that it really doesn’t matter that much. The 0 – 100 km/h(0-62MPH) sprint, when launched with the Launch Control system, takes just 3.6 seconds and the top speed is 320 km/h (199 mph).

The R8 GT is fitted with some matt titanium gray struts and slats in the air intakes and a matt black front grille.
Standard  wheels are 19-inch forged with 8.5J x 19 up front and 11J x 19 at the rear carry 235/35 and 295/30 tyres respectively. If you want oyu can order a optional 305/30.

Even thought the R8 GT is a street monster, inside is still a luxurious Audi that features Alcantara trim, MMI navigation, a B&O sound with numerous speakers and automatic climate control.

Prices start from €193,000 in Germany and only 333 examples will be made. Even thought the R8 GT is more expensive than the standard R8 V10, it’s still much better value than the Lambo Lp560.

Really cool street race of the Audi RS6 vs Nissan GTR. To be honest the race is not completely fair, the RS6 is tuned by Evosport while the GTR is completely stock. Even thought the RS6 is producing 730ps and the GTR’s have only 480ps, the RS6 is a full four door sedan. At first the GTR pulls a bit, but then in get destroyed by the mighty RS6.

A really good Audi RS5 review by AutoCar. I can’t agree completely with some of the things that the journalist from AutoCar said about the RS5, but to be honest I haven’t driven the RS5 by myself so at this point I will trust what other journalist are saying for the RS5. What can we say about this Audi RS5 Review. Firstly as expected the sound from the engine is just phenomenal, for me it sounds just perfect. The exterior is aggressive and yet elegant, keeping the lines of the A5.  Same thing can be said about the interior. Because the RS5 is fitted with the latest quattro four wheel drive system, the handling is also pretty awesome.
Although I really liked the review, I’m looking forward for a review that the RS5 will be put against the M3. A Audi RS5 vs BMW M3 vs C63 Review sounds very good, hope that we will be able to see one soon.

Here at Audi Blog – Audicts, we are big fans of the A8 W12 and now Audi has released specifications and details of the all-new 2011 Audi A8 L W12 quattro. The long wheelbase variant of the 2011 Audi A8. As you can expect the main differences from the ordinary A8 is the extended wheelbase and the all new W12 engine.

The 2011 Audi A8 W12 measures 5,267 millimeters (17.28 ft) in lenght, 130mm (5.1 in) longer than any other rival models from Mercedes and BMW.

It features a longer wheelbase and an increase in height of 3,122 mm (10.24 ft) and 2 mm (0.08 in) respectively.

Rear passengers will be enjoying  two optional separate power-adjustable seats which can be heated and ventilated. A new feature on the 2011 Audi A8 W12 is the full-length centre console that can be equipped with a folding table and a fridge and of course four-zone automatic air conditioning.

Here are the A8 W12 Details. For the 2011 A8 W12, Audi upgraded the standard MMI control system with more advanced one. For the first time in the A8 range, customers will have the pleasure to view 3D satellite navigation with Google Earth. If you like high quality music, the A8 will be also the right choice for you. A8 customers can order a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System. A panoramic sunroof  can be also ordered and a specal tanned Valonea leather.

Audi changed the exterior design as well for the A8 W12. The new single-frame radiator grille with chromed horizontal bars is really cool. They are numerous W12 badges and of course the classic two trapezoidal tailpipes. As standard the Audi A8 W12 is equipped with a 15-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/45 tyres are fitted, but customers can also order optional 20-inch or even 21-inch rims.

As far for the 2011 Audi A8 W12 engine specifications.

Based on the previous 6.0-liter engine found in the previous generation A8, the all new W12 for model year 2011 has been fully re worked with increased displacement from 6.0liters to 6.3 and added petrol direct injection for better fuel consumption. It weighs just 247 kilograms (545 lbs) and has a power output of 368 kW (493 bhp / 500 PS) and a torque of 625 Nm (460.98 lb-ft) at 3,250rpm. As you can expect the 2011 Audi A8 W12 is equipped with quattro four wheel drive system. For the first time Audi will put a 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox in one of their models. Keep in mind that the A8 W12 weight less that the previous generation A8 and the 0-62mph(0-100km/h) will be time less than 5seconds(4.9s). That is a remarkable achievement considering the enormous size of the A8. The top speed is limited to 155mph(250km/h) r Average fuel consumption is said to be a low 12.0 litres per 100 kilometres (19.6 US mpg).

While only the W12 FSI is available at launch, by the end of the year the long version of the A8 will be offered with the standard engines.

At first when Audi said that they are going to make a convertible version of the R8 5.2 V10, I wasn’t so sure that Audi is going to succeed keeping the aggressive lines of the coupe. As a rule all convertibles are looking a bit soft compared to the regular hard top version. But as you can see from those pictures, the Audi R8 Spyder Exclusive is a big exception. I can’t think of any other convertible that looks so damn good, it’s just unbelievable. I must say that I’m not the biggest fan of the whole “no roof” idea, but that is just pure perfection. I really hope that someday I would be able to afford to replace my current  A4 1.8T with this baby …

I came across on an interesting video about the 2008 TTS. Yes, it’s not the most up to date video about the TTS but it’s somewhat unique. Its shows on what the TTS is capable of in bad weather conditions. Here you can see a video filmed in Japan by Best Motoring. I’m not the biggest fan of Best Motoring to be honest, they just tend to overrate all Japanese cars way too much, not surprising though, the same thing can be sad about (don’t shoot me), Top Gear …

BMW M3, Mercedes SL63, Lexus IS-F, Mitsubishi Evo X and Audi TTS

The Audi TTS is put against the BMW M3, Mercedes SL63 ///AMG, IS-F and the ultimate track tool Mitsubishi Evo X. I wish that the Best Motoring was testing the RS4 instead of the TTS, but at the end the performance of the TTS was truly surprising. The rain played a big part in the end result, of course if it was dry the BMW M3 would perform much better, but with the rain and Quattro in the game it didn’t have a chance.

If the original Audi R8 supercar is too ordinary for you, then the German tuning firm Abt Sportsline can solve that problem.

The ABT R8 GT R isn’t even an ordinary tuned car, but a lightweight,  race car for with enormous power that can be used on the road and track. The first thing Abt did to the R8 is to replace the Audi’s stock hood, front and rear aprons, rear wing, tailgate, and even the outline edge on the rear, external mirrors, and the door panels – the change all of those with their own made from carbon fiber.

To save weight even mover the side windows are replaced with a more lightweight ones made from material called Makrolon. All this changing and stripping  makes for a big weight save of over 220 lbs – a significant number when flying down a track or “cruising” on the roads.

ABT R8 GTR Engine Specifications

Of course, Abt didn’t leave the engine in it’s original form. The mighty 5.2-liter, 525 hp V10 engine in the original A8 has been tuned to the extraordinary 620 hp, allowing the Audi Abt R8 GTR to travel from zero to 62 mph in only 3.2 seconds(0.7s improvement compared to the standard Audi R8 V10). If you can find a straight long enough, then you will be able to reach 124 mph in 9.9 seconds, up to a top speed of 202 mph.

Abt R8 GTR is  also fitted with an sports suspension and adjustable dampers to fine-tune the performance on the track, along with modified brakes to deal with the added extra power. The wheels fitted to the ABT R8 is also lightweight, they are 19-inch with unique ABT design.

To further improve the R8 GTR ability to perform on tracks, Abt added Recaro racing seats with a 4-point seat belt system and stainless steel roll-over bar with seat belt attachment. R8 customers will also find an hand-held fire extinguisher if the worst thing happen and you end up crashing you GTR R8. The streering wheels is also different with an carbon fiber ABT Sports steering wheel.

Overall, the R8 GTR is a very pretty track tool that have the potential to compete with a Ferrari 458 Italia.

The high tech  Audi R15-TDI racing sports car ran the entire distance without any problem during the test race. Right after the opening lap of the eight-hour race, Audi race driver Allan McNish managed to overtook the Peugeot driven by Frenchman Stéphane Sarrazin which had started from pole position. After the victory against the Peugeot, on the third lap the R15 TDI overtook the Lola-Aston Martin of Stefan Mücke.

From then the Audi R15 TDI driven by Allan McNish and his teammate Dindo Capello did not relinquish the lead. The race went smooth and without any problem for Audi Racing Team.  Amazingly after 266 laps the two Audi R15 drivers had managed to take a whole five-lap lead over the Lola-Aston Martin driven by defending champion Stefan Mücke, Harold Primat and Adrian Fernandez. The Oreca team Peugeot finished in 4th place because of a technical problem.

The only unscheduled visit to the pit stops was made just before the end of the race, Joest had to put rain tires.

Audi Sport Team Joest used the Le Mans Series 2010 season opener as training exercise for the 24-hour race at Le Mans on 12/13 June 2010.
